Both Directors Ian Kimberley and Mike Donegan have over 15 years experience in managing care homes with both nursing and residential clients and have applied their skills throughout the country managing homes on behalf of proprietors we have successfully increased the standards of care and the long term financial viability of the businesses.
I qualified with a degree in hotel management and worked in a number of high quality privately owned hotels around the country, culminating in winning a ‘Catey’ award (the industries equivalent of an Oscar) for the Best Independent Marketing Campaign.
I moved from hotel management into the healthcare sector working for a developing company - ANS Plc taking over an underperforming nursing and residential home in Somerset. Within two years I had turned the home around and then did the same thing in two more homes in the company whilst retaining the management of each of the other homes. As the company had a very flat management structure with no promotional prospects I decided to move on to a company that could offer me more.
I joined Recovery Care Limited (see next page)
I set up Care Home Management with Mike (see below)
I came into the Health and Care of the elderly business from running public house chains for a national company (Pubmaster). I was employed by Rochfort Healthcare (based in Covent Garden) running Care Homes as an operations manager in the North of England.
The Bank of Scotland called in expertise in the care industry as a number of care homes were failing and rather than foreclose on the business I joined a partnership - Recovery Care Limited to revive business for the banks to maximise on profit, which greatly improved the asset value. The partnership developed a business strategy incorporating proprietors in the ‘Private Sector’ who wished to step back from their businesses.
On the retirement of two of the founding partners, Ian and I formed Care Home Management Limited and added to the business by concentrating on the top end of the market where there was potential in improving individual proprietors businesses. We have developed a proven track record in increasing the operating margins of the businesses we are associated with.
'We pride ourselves on professionally managing care homes on behalf of proprietors who do not wish to become involved in the day to day running of their business. By guiding the full time care management team to meet agreed targets of performance and by ensuring that the home continues to meet the agreed standards of care we are able to demonstrate to the proprietor their business is safe in our hands.'
At the commencement of a new project an in depth budget and business plan is produced by Care Home Management (CHM) in conjunction with the proprietor and care manager. Specific issues of concern are identified and detailed plans are developed, which are tailored to improving the business. Monthly accounts and variance reports are produced and submitted to the proprietor together with a detailed monthly report on the homes performance.
CHM have also amassed a great deal of experience of managing care homes throughout the Country with poor inspection reports or are experiencing problems with the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults. By working closely with the relevant authorities CHM are able to bridge the gap by developing relationships with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Social Work Teams and Contracting Units and with the managers and proprietors can usually provide a route through the immediate and medium/long term problems to the benefit of all parties concerned.
More recently, during the past 2 years, the company has been running up to 13 care homes that had gone into administration, the majority of these homes have now successfully been sold with only two being forced into closure and one remaining on our books.
